Transportation within Turin
Turin has an efficient system of city connections with buses and trams, which cross the city from morning (the first departure for almost all lines is at about 05.00) to late in the evening (24.00). Currently, the first metropolitan/underground/subway line is under construction.
The tickets can be purchased in tobacconists', newsagents and public places displaying the GTT sticker. There are various ticket possibilities: the ordinary urban ticket with 70 minute validity, the 15-ticket block etc. Tickets must be stamped in one of the machines onboard the tram/bus before reaching the first stop to be valid.
If you reach Turin by car, you will find many paying car parks.

How to reach Torino
An excellent road network connects Turin to the main national and European communication routes. Turin can be reached not only using motorways but also through the main tunnels and passes connecting Italy, France and Switzerland. It is linked by road to France through the Tenda and Frejus tunnels, over the Montgenèvre pass and the Moncenisio pass, and through the Mont Blanc tunnel via the Aosta Valley, and to Switzerland over the Simplon pass and the Great St. Bernard pass (Aosta Valley). The Frejus tunnel was temporarily closed over the summer, but has now re-opened.
Turin is a nationally and internationally important railway junction. The main stations in Turin are:
Turin Sandro Pertini Airport lies 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the city centre. Sandro Pertini Airport connects with eight national and seventeen international destinations. For additional information, visit the airport web site.
Shuttle buses are available from the airport (departure location: domestic arrivals, ground floor-level zero) to the city centre (arrival location: Porta Nuova main railway station) and from the city centre (departure location: Porta Nuova main railway station, the corner of via Sacchi 8 and via Assietta) to the airport every day.
Tickets for the shuttle bus can be bought from:
A taxi to the city centre is approximately 40 Euros (20 to 30 minutes).
A railway links the airport to Turin (GTT Dora Railway Station). The train departs every 30 minutes to the airport from 05:13am to 07:43pm, and to Turin from 06:49am to 09:19pm. The journey time is about 20 minutes. The railway station is located few meters away from the air terminal: a covered pedestrian connection, only 150 meters away, links the station to the check-in counters on the Departures level. The Dora Railway Station is not located in the center of Turin, requiring a tram/bus or taxi ride to reach the center, and therefore ICSR9 participants may find this option inconvenient.
Other airports easily reachable are those of Milan (Malpensa and Linate) and Genoa.
Shuttle buses are also available from and to the Malpensa Airport with the following schedule:
You can buy tickets (Euros 17,50 one way) at :
On arrival in Turin, the bus number 9 can be taken from the bus terminal to reach the city centre along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. Remember that tram/bus tickets are bought from tobacconists' and newsagents, and cannot be bought onboard the bus, and note that you must stamp your ticket in one of the machines onboard the bus before reaching the first stop. Take the bus in the direction of Porta Nuova railway station, and get off at the station (hotels area) Note that there is no taxi rank at the bus terminal.
Note that the last stop of the Milan Malpensa - Torino bus before the bus terminal in Turin is Porta Susa railway station. ICSR9 participants may find it convenient to get off the bus at Porta Susa, and then take a taxi, bus or tram (numbers 13 and 56) into the city centre (see the information for arrivals via train a Porta Susa above).
